Industrial Maintenance Mechanics install, build, set up, tear down, maintain and repair manufacturing plant equipment and production line systems in businesses and factories. These highly-skilled workers ensure that fabrication processes operate as designed, with a thorough knowledge of mechanical systems including conveyors, motors, pumps, robotics and many other components that form the complex systems found in modern manufacturing.

Industrial Maintenance Mechanic (IMM Level 1) is the first in a series of four levels of training designed by the National Center for Construction Education and Research (NCCER) and complies with DOL time-based standards for apprenticeship. Through a combination of convenient online exercises and live classroom/lab training at the MGCC Clifton Forge Campus, this course in industrial maintenance mechanics is structured as a hybrid class, a combination of online training and live classroom/lab training. Goals and topics include:
 
  • Introduction to the Trade
  • Thoroughly describe Job Requirements
  • Demonstrate Interview Skills
  • Describe an Industrial Craftworker
  • Explain importance of safety to Craftworker
  • Complete NCCER Level I Skills assessments
Coursework includes 60 hours of classroom/lab training and 60 hours of online homework and activities.  Eighth-grade competence in reading and mathematics is recommended. Students must have completed or be concurrently enrolled in NCCER Core Curriculum.
